NATURE BASED

Populations controls for the wild horses would be nature based. Terrain, weather and food sources will contain much of the horses population growth. Wild horses presently have a high foal morbidity.

 

ROUND UP HARVESTING

A modest roundup of young horses could be instigated. Using safe round up methods such as bait trapping, selected horses could be culled from the herds. These horses could then be sold at promoted auctions. EXAMPLE: the roundup of ponies at Chincoteague Island in the Carolinas. This would be done only when herds exceeed sustainable levels.

 

PREDATORS

Allowing predators to return to the wild areas of public lands. Predators are nature's way of control animal populations. Although difficult for lovers of wild horses if truly want wild animals then they must be allowed to live totally wild lives. Should there be livestock loss Ranchers will be compensated and the compensation process would be made more user friendly for ranching interests.
